Along with the young children's and teen reading program, the Crook County Library added an adult aspect this summer

The summer reading program is in full swing at the Crook County Library, and there are four weeks of exciting and engaging programs left for children, teens, and adults to participate in.

The Oregon State Library points out that there is a significant loss of learning during the summer when young people are not in school. Summer reading programs provide activities that encourage readers to stay active in reading throughout the summer, while having fun at the same time.

"The whole point of it is to encourage kids to read during the summertime," said Jane Ahern, Youth Services Librarian for the Crook County Library.

She went on to say that there are two parts to the summer reading program.

"One part is all the activities that we do and the programs that we put on. The other part is really more about the kids reading at home and keeping their skills sharp."

The theme for this year is "Dream Big, Read." Ahern said that there is a different theme for each summer reading program. The library kicked off their event June 16, with juggler Charlie Brown in the library park.

Other activities that took place in June included a presentation by High Desert Museum with bats and owls, storytimes with Tammy Bronson, campfire songs with Anita pandora sale 2016 Hoffman and her drama students as well as campfire songs with Elaine McDaniel, and a puppet show.

In July, there will be more storytimes, and another appearance with Magician Bill Mitchell.

She said that it is different than the children's program, in that they have closed the registration. They are also having drawings, with the first already held, which was a book lover's gift basket. On the display every week, they have a different genre every week to encourage adults to read outside what they typically would choose.

"We can't keep the books on there; they just go out like crazy," added Caudle.

The theme for the adult reading program is "Between the covers," and there will also be a grand drawing for a comforter set. Arrest made in Roseville store robbery from last summer

That employee was owner Gene Christian.

Christian said he fired his .357 Magnum handgun at the men.

"Very very scary," Christian said. "He fired one round at me, missed. Then he ran in front and I fired one round at them and they fired about three or four more rounds."

No one was hit by the shots and nothing was taken from the store, police said.

Officers from Roseville, Eastpointe and St. Clair Shores did an immediate search of the area for the gunmen, but didn't find them.

Police said some clothing and a handgun were recovered.

These Are A Few Of Your Favorite Things In Photos

What do the objects we keep say about us? Which things, if any, are the ones we wouldn't want to live without?

In December, for our ongoing community "Public Square" photo project with KPCC, we asked you to photograph and share some of your favorite things and tag them PSMyFavoriteThings.

Surprisingly (or maybe not) there's only one iPhone in the batch.

Here are some of your photos. (Captions have been slightly revised for readability). This coffee table was given to me by my mother for Christmas. It's a new favorite. 2. The heart was drawn by my 9 year old. He takes doodling to an amazing level. 3. I love doms. . I learned by watching my dad, aunts, uncles, and grandparents play. 4. The Eiffel Tower photo was taken and developed by my husband (boyfriend at the time) when he was studying architecture for a semester in France. He composed the poem for me that is written on top of the image. 5. This is my high school copy of The Great Gatsby that includes my handwritten notes in the margins. Love this book. 6. These letters were individually written to me by each of my parents when I was at my high school retreat. They include everything that I already knew but my parents just couldn't say out loud. I will cherish these forever. 7. My 5 year old, with the help of my friend, made this bowl. It's perfect. 8. The Origrami box contains dozens of Instagram photos (taken by me) that my husband had printed. He surprised me.
